First Trip to the Emergency Room

We experienced our first trip to the ER with our little man this week, and we're happy to say that it was not too serious and we are now back home - safe and sound. All day Tuesday he was pretty lethargic and wasn't eating much - and then he developed a fever that evening. So around 9:30pm we loaded him up and made the drive to OHSU. The doctors and nurses were very good, and ran a ton of tests on him to figure out exactly what was going on. It was very tough on Jen and I to see our little dude getting poked and prodded (IV, catheter, spinal tap, blood draws), but we knew it was the right thing to do to help the doctors figure out what was ailing him.

After staying in the hospital all night Tuesday, we were told Wednesday morning that we'd have to stay another 36 hours for observation so the doctors could determine if Lochlan had any kind of bacterial infection. So it made for a long two days, but in the end everything turned out fine. Loch had some kind of virus in his system, but it was gone by Wednesday afternoon and he was back to his normal, happy self. Mom and Dad were very relieved to get home on Thursday with a healthy baby.

We're not naive enough to think this will be our only trip to the ER - but let's hope it's a long time before we have to go back:)
