Lochlan turns 10 months old today!

Feb. 20, 2012 - Today is Lochlan's 10 month old "birthday". I can't believe we are creeping up on 1 year! Wow how time flies! Today was President's Day and I had a holiday so I twisted Sean's arm and got him to call in sick to work so we could have a family day. =) We went to breakfast at one of our favorite cafes; in the afternoon we went to Munchkin Playland and let Loch crawl all over the place and play with the toys; and tonight we went to swimming lessons. It was a fun day!

Here are some photos from our family day at Munchkin Playland:

This new year has been filled with lots of big events for the little guy. He started swimming lessons in January. The first night he liked it up until the teacher dunked him under water! After that he was a bit traumatized for the next few sessions! I felt so bad for him. We of course wanted it to be a fun experience, but we also want him to get used to the water so that swimming isn't a scary experience. The past 3 sessions he's been slowly warming back up to the pool and having some fun. Tonight was a good night too. He's been going underwater more and more the past few weeks and tonight it didn't bother him too much either. He's still a little unsure of the teacher; but then again, he's 10 months old and stranger anxiety has set in a little bit. We have 4 more classes until the end of this session and we went ahead and signed him up for the Spring Session as well (12 more weeks). So after the Spring Session, I think that he'll be pretty acclimated...which is great because we want to go to Hawaii later this year and there will be a lot of swimming in the pool and playing in the ocean there!

Here are some pictures from our first night at swimming (Jan. 2nd):

Another big accomplishment since the new year is that Lochlan has upgraded his army crawl to a regular crawl (on his hands and knees with his belly off the ground). He started doing this at the beginning of January and is super fast now. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever. Here's a couple pictures from Munchkin Playland today. The one with him crawling through the tunnel is a little blurry, but still cute. He can also pull himself up and cruise around the furniture. We have this little walker toy and he loves to cruise on that thing too. He wants to walk in the worst way. We think it will be someday soon.

Lastly, we switched his carseat out for the bigger kid seat. This was a big bummer for Mom and Dad. We finally had to come to terms with the fact that he was too long for the infant seat. But he HATES his new car seat! It's been about 4-5 weeks since we switched it out and he still screams and arches his back and cries! I think he is just protesting. It's different and he doesn't like anything that is different. Also, I know that at this age they tend to try to protest a lot of things. He does it with diaper changes too. He never wants to slow down or be "trapped".

At daycare they've moved him to the "wobblers" room. Not an infant, not quite a toddler. He sleeps on a mat on the floor rather than in the crib. We were a little skeptical about this, but it's turned out fine. He is actually napping better this way. He's taking 2 naps a day now for about an hour to an hour and a half each time. He's also eating a ton of finger foods now. Cheerios are his favorite, but we also give him avocado pieces, black beans, and steamed veggies. He still eats purees too. We are just trying to keep him fed. At daycare he eats at least 3, sometimes 4 solid food meals a day. And he usually has at least 1 or 2 at home as well, plus bottles and breastmilk! At his last Dr. appointment mid-January (9 month), he only weighed 18 lbs 5 oz (16th percentile), and was 29" tall (76th percentile). But the Doctor says he looks great and not to worry about his weight since there are a lot of breastfed babies that are low on the growth chart. Also, he is growing & thriving which is the most important thing. He looks great too. He definitely doesn't look too skinny or anything. Makes you wonder if there is just a lot of really chubby babies our there that throw off the scale.

Our little man keeps us entertained everyday. He has a great personality and loves to play games with us. Sean and I can tell him that we are going to chase him, get down on our hands and knees and crawl after him. He then crawls as fast as he can trying to escape and screaming with delight the whole time! He is starting to get into things though. We've had to start using the baby gates to keep him out of certain areas and we are constantly monitoring dog toys and dog food. We actually are starting to think that he thinks he might be part dog... he loves to crawl over to the dog bed and sit down on it next to them. He also loves to climb on Tank. (We always supervise of course). Tank is very patient. Lochlan will also sometimes crawl around with a toy in his mouth (just like the doggies do). It's pretty cute. =)

As far as talking goes...no understandable words yet. He does say "dadada" and "mamama' a lot, but it doesn't seem like he is saying them to either of us particularly....just his babble. He makes all sorts of funny sounds, including a few really low growling ones that we call his lion noise. He's a funny kid.

Here's a few more pictures from us just playing in his room the other day:

Look at all those TEETH! =)
