Week 18 - Ultrasound

Last week we had our 18 week ultrasound! Sean and I really enjoyed this visit. The first question the Ultrasound Technician asked us, was "Do you want to know if it's a boy or a girl?" We emphatically said "YES!". And within the first few seconds of using the sonograph machine, she got a good view of the baby said... "It's a boy!" I think we were both shocked that she was able to find the right view of the baby so quickly! We looked at each other and were both so exciting to know that we have a little boy! I know we would have been excited either way, but just knowing the baby's gender adds a whole new dimension to the pregnancy experience. It adds that new feeling of reality. Knowing that it's a little boy and seeing his little profile and seeing all his arms and legs moving around...it was truly amazing. I would say it is probably one of the most amazing moments I've experienced in my life so far. I know Sean feels the same way. We both walked out of the office with permanent grins on our face. Just so happy and so excited.

Here are the pictures from our visit. The first photo she took was this one of the gender. This is taken from beneath his cute little butt.

I love this profile picture. I think he looks like his daddy. =)

This is by far one of our favorite pictures. He just looks so comfortable and cozy, just kicking back in the womb. I can tell he has his daddy's easy going attitude. If you look closely, you can see his little arms are up toward his face. When we were watching this, it looked like he was rubbing his eyes.

Here's a picture of the bottom of one of his feet.

Here are pictures of each of his feet.

We go back to the Dr. again this week for our 19 week check-up and to review the ultrasound results. I should have another update in a couple days.

This week was also Thanksgiving, and we were lucky enough to not have to drive anywhere this year. On Thanksgiving day we went to my uncle Steve & Yvonne's house - which is right here in Beaverton. This was a nice small dinner with just me, Sean, my Grandma, and Yvonne's parents as the guests. Sean and I brought the ultrasound photos to show Grandma. She couldn't believe the detail. We also brought our fetal heart monitor and let her take a listen to the heartbeat. She loved it! Even my uncle Steve got a chance to listen and thought it was pretty cool.

Then on Saturday, we had Sean's side of the family for Thanksgiving at our house! This was out first time hosting for Sean's family and I think it turned out great. I did cheat a little by ordering a pre-cooked organic turkey from Whole Foods, but that allowed me to focus on preparing side dishes and desserts. Our guests were Sean's mom, her husband Wayne, Sean's brother Denny and his girlfriend Rachel. Everyone enjoyed dinner & some yummy spiced apple cider. Denny brought a fun board game called "Settler's of Catan". It was my second time playing it and it's really addicting. It's sort of like Risk meets Monopoly...but the game time is MUCH shorter. We played 2 rounds of it in probably 3 hours. Which of course could never happen with either of those other games. It might have to be one we put on our list. It's always nice to have some new games to play with guests.

Sean’s mom also brought Sean and Denny’s baby books. We all had a fun time reading through those and looking at the baby pictures. Mom and Wayne also brought us a little baby gift. Little baby PJ’s, a matching onesie , pants and a little cap. It’s blue and white with little bears on it. Baby boy’s first outfit! Very cute!

More updates to come after our Dr's appointment on Tuesday.
